Is digital identity important?

Digital identity is important because anything we put on the computer can be seen by anyone around the world, and once your infomation is out it won't be deleted. Your credit card number, address, phone number, and other personal information could be shown to anyone. If someone gets your credit card numer they could take all your money and spend it on anything, you would not know this happened until a week later when almost all of your money is gone. With digital identities, you can keep your personal information to yourself without worrying about anyone seeing it, you would not have to worrry about people stealing your money or finding out where you live. But with some of your social media applications people can see your information without you knowing. For example, the moment you post a picture on Instagram people could see where you took the photo and the exact time you took it with that person. Facebook is the same exact way. When you upload a picture or make a text post, people can see it instantly and know your personal information. With digital identities people do not have to know everything about you, they could know you by a fake name and refer to you as that, you could put a fake birthday, fake age, fake anything as long as your not using it to hurt someone else or make fun of them. With a digital identity your information can be kept to yourself if you use it the right way and if you are careful with what you post and what people can see. This can help keep people safe because when your identity is kept private it will be harder for peopple to steal things from you that are personal and expensive.
